🧬 Open Genes is a non-commercial open biological database of human genes associated with aging and longevity.
The data collected allows researchers to identify genes involved in aging, analyze experimental results, and look for target genes for future aging therapies.
The amount of new data in biology is constantly growing and we need new tools for searching, analyzing and structuring data.
Work accomplished
We collected data on 2,402 genes associated with aging and developed tools to search for and compare gene properties.
We have provided a comprehensive description of genes: life-extending interventions, changes associated with aging, associations with longevity, gene evolution, associations with diseases and signs of aging, and functions of gene products.
Particular attention was paid to the description of the data in order to preserve the structure of the experiment, allowing comparison of independent studies without methodological distortions.
A preprint of our paper has recently been published on ResearchSquare: https://www.researchsquare.com/article/rs-2306130/v1
Purpose
Open Genes can be used for a variety of purposes, including analyzing data for all the genes in a database, looking up info for a specific gene, or finding a combination of genes to experiment with. Developers can use the Open Genes API to develop their own applications.
Main feature
Detailed and structured experimental data is the main feature of the Open Genes database.
We want to remain objective and precise in linking a particular gene to human aging, and to keep gene selection criteria transparent. We collected unique, detailed, structured data from 6 types of experiments describing up to 40 parameters, including methods, design, and results. We divided the genes into levels of confidence based on the type of data supporting the link between the gene and aging.
Our goals
Our goals were to structure all the available data from experiments related to aging, linking this or that gene to aging, and to identify gaps in the genetics of aging. This means more space for new research and possible gene targets for aging therapy.
Support us
We are at the very beginning of our way! It means lack of volunteers, usability issues and bugs. Please help us improve Open Genes and support it, so we could keep growing! 💜
